In his first week with a new RAZR Fit Xtreme Driver in the bag, Jim Furyk split the fairways at Innisbrook during his T7 finish at the Tampa Bay Championship. The PGA Tour veteran used his new driver and a HEX Black Tour Ball to shoot 72-69-67-71. Furyk has now made the cut in all five of his starts this year and he ranks third on Tour in driving accuracy.
Earlier in the week, he tested 9.5° and 10.5° RAZR Fit Xtreme Drivers with a number of different shaft, COG and weight combinations. The guy’s an absolute machine on the range and he put in the time to see which setup worked best for him.
He preferred the look and performance of RAZR Fit Xtreme and was primarily testing with an Aldila Tour Green 70 gram shaft. Furyk eventually decided on a 10.5° model and finished T8 in the field in driving accuracy. He hit it on a string all week and had himself a great tournament.
Quiros Makes Season Debut, Still Ridiculously Long
Alvaro Quiros looked good in his first event of the year and quickly showed that he’s still one of the longest players in golf. The Callaway Staff Pro missed the early part of the year with a wrist injury but looked like his old self throughout the Avantha Masters.
He easily made the cut and averaged 315.1 yards per drive with his new RAZR Fit Xtreme Driver (9.5°). He also played two RAZR Fit Xtreme Fairway Woods, new X Forged Irons, a HEX Black Tour Ball and an Odyssey Putter. So again, he missed almost three months and averaged 315 yards a pop in his first tournament back. That’s normal.
Woodland Moves Into Versa Putter
Gary Woodland had seen a number of his playing competitors make putts with new Odyssey Versa Putters so he figured he might as well join in the fun. It’s really that simple. No technical breakdowns, no insider information, nothing else for us to really tell you. He saw people making putts with these models so he decided to give them a try.
He worked with a Versa #7 Black/White/Black Putter that he ultimately put in play for the Tampa Bay Championship. With Woodland’s added confidence on the greens and his ridiculous length of the tee, he’s definitely a player to keep an eye on in the coming weeks.
Immelman Playing New X Hot Pro Driver
In other news from Tampa, Callaway staffer Trevor Immelman played an X Hot Pro Driver (10.5°) that our Callaway Reps made for him a few weeks ago. The Masters Champion had been working hard with this new driver and now he feels that it goes about 3-5 yards longer than his previous gamer. His 44.5” X Hot Pro Driver has an Aldila 60x Beta (Green Eyes) shaft. This club could give him an added boost for Augusta in a few weeks.
Palmer Always The King At Bay Hill
Our #ZooCrew Team is out in full force this week at Bay Hill, where once again Staff Icon Arnold Palmer will host the tournament that bears his name. The Arnold Palmer Invitational is one of the most popular stops on Tour as players come to play an incredible course, and to pay their respects to a legend who ushered golf into the modern era.
We’ll see plenty of Mr. Palmer as he overseas another exciting week of golf, and we can’t wait too watch his interviews this weekend. Good luck, Arnie! We know this week will be a great one!
