In his first tournament playing the RAZR Fit Xtreme Driver, Phil Mickelson bombed huge drives all week on the way to a dominating wire-to-wire win at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Mickelson consistently split the fairways with towering 300+ yard drives and came within a lip-out of shooting 59 in the first round. The Hall of Famer was quick to credit his driver throughout the event.
“I finally gave our new RAZR Fit Xtreme a chance and I tell you what, on Tuesday when I hit it, I kept looking up and I was almost in disbelief at how easy it was, how straight it was,” Mickelson said after his brilliant opening round 60 on Thursday.
His driver has 8.1° of actual loft with a 5 gram weight in the toe and 3 grams in the heel. The 45″ shaft is a Mistubishi Rayon Fubuki K. 059 prototype model 70X.
As the week progressed, he offered more details on why Xtreme performed so well for him:
“The driver spins so low that I can have more loft on the club, making it easier to hit,” Mickelson said. “This has got to be good for every player I would think, but it sure as heck is good for me. And by having it be a low spin driver with enough loft, and because it’s that RAZR Fit Xtreme where you can fit it, I was able to get it dialed in to where it goes straight.”
And his great quotes kept coming:
“If I drive it like this and feel as easy as I do over the driver, my iron – the strength of my game is my iron play,” Mickelson said. “So if I can drive it like I did and with the ease with which I did and the misses be where they were, then this could be a really big deal for me.”
Mickelson used RAZR Fit Xtreme, a HEX Black Tour Ball, RAZR X Muscleback Irons (4-P) and an Odyssey Black Series Tour Designs #9 Putter to earn his 41st PGA Tour win. He led the field in birdies and greens in regulation, finished a remarkable 28-under for the week and thrilled the record-breaking crowds with his spectacular play.
We’d like to congratulate Phil on his exciting win, and we can’t wait to root for him as he defends his championship at the AT&T National Pebble Beach Pro-Am. You can congratulate Phil too on the comment wall below or on our Callaway Facebook and Twitter pages.
RAZR Fit Xtreme is available now and you can shop now at shop.callaway.
Way to go, Phil!

Tell us what shaft he was using please?
Hi Rob,
The 45″ shaft on Phil’s driver is a Mitsubishi Rayon Fubuki K. 059 prototype model 70X. It’s a 9.5° driver with 8.1° of actual loft, 5 grams in the toe and 3 grams in the heel.
Thanks for posting!
YES agreed, if your are selling the story, tell us all the details, shaft data, thank you Callaway oh and dont forget to credit the coaching lesson he received on the warm up day. If your set up is wrong you cant go long.
You’re absolutely right, Greg. His swing looked great all week! The way Phil played in Scottsdale was just unreal – one of the best performances we’ve seen on Tour in a LONG time!
Shaft details please! The shaft is the motor and the head won’t run without it.
This is Phil’s Shaft! “45″ Fubuki K 059proto 70X. Xtreme 8.1deg head with some exclusive PM R&D tuning” It was Posted by a member of Callaway on Twitter . Everyone wanted to know what was in it !

What 3 wood did Phil use this week.
Hi Tom,
The 3-wood Phil used is not made by Callaway. We’ll post an update if that changes. Thanks for posting.
Phil ,
Your realtionship with Callaway has proved very successful from day 1. If they are smart they should sign you for many more years !!
I left Callaway years ago (after the Great Big Bertha) because I felt they fell behind in technology. I am currently a TaylorMade guy, hitting the R11s and RBZ however I would be very happy to put Callaway back in my bag. I play the Hex Black and LOVE it. Does anyone know how the Razr Fit Xtreme compares to the R11s?
Sorry we lost you after the Great Big Bertha, Steve. But we LOVE that we have the chance to win you back!
Please demo the RAZR Fit Xtreme Driver against any other driver out there — we think you’ll like what you see. It’s different than competitor drivers for a lot of reasons, including a super lightweight crown (just 12.1 grams) that allows us to place the cg lower for lower spin off the tee.
Combine that with the Speed Frame Face Technology that optimizes stiffness and stress distribution across the face to promote more ball speed (even on off-center contact), and you’re in good shape.
The proof is in the pudding, though, so please test it out and let us know what you think! If you have further questions, let us know by commenting here or calling our customer service at 1-800-588-9836.
Thanks – on a positive note I LOVE your HEX Black. It’s a great ball from green to tee. I have hit everything from the ProV, Penta, Srixon and even the Bridgestone series and found the HEX to be a great all around ball with a much improved cover. In addition I have found the HEX Chrome is a great ball for cooler days allowing me to compress the ball a little better.
Quick question – saw a piece on the X Hot and during the advertorial they discussed draw bias. Specifically they talked about draw bias incorporated into the X Hot and explained how higher lofts with the X Hot have increased draw bias. Is this unique or proprietary technology pertaining to the X Hot or is increased draw bias considered normal and the result of increased loft in any driver? Does this also apply to the Xtreme? Appreciate your thoughts.
Is there anyway to win exactly what’s in Phil’s bag!? I am a lefty and only play Callaway! There should be a sweepstakes! Go Phil, I predict about 3 more wins this year. He looked great in Scottsdale!
Hey Rich,
We don’t currently have a sweepstakes to win exactly what is in Phil’s bag, but that’s an awesome idea. Keep an eye our for a very cool and Phil-related sweepstakes coming nationwide later this week. I think you’ll like what we have in store!
Those are the actual other clubs Phil has in his Bag:
Irons: RAZR X Muscleback (4-PW)
Wedges: JAWS Wedges (52°, 62°, 64°)
Putter: Odyssey Black Series Tour Design #9
Golf Ball: HEX Black Tour
45″ Fubuki K 059proto 70X you cant buy this shaft
Great week of golf Phil. That driver looks awsome.
what is the stock shaft that is being offered to the public? Oh, and come to Texas to avoid those sky high California taxes. We’d love to have you.
Hi Eddie,
Thanks for posting. The Tour Grade Aldila Trinity Shaft is the stock shaft on RAZR Fit Xtreme. You can see an image of the shaft on our RAZR Fit Xtreme page.

Thanks for all the specs!! What are the bounces on Phils wedges? I play Callaway as well and would like to know
how close my wedges are. Thanks for giving us a great show this weekend Phil! I think you will be a factor everytime you tee it up. Got room for another green jacket?
Great question, Tony. Our Fitting Team just measured three wedges that Phil keeps at the Ely Callaway Peformance Center, and here’s what they told us:
52° wedge – 9.5° bounce
56° wedge – 15.5° bounce
60° wedge – 10° bounce
All three wedges are at 35.5″ finished length with KBS tour V2 shafts. And yes, we think he’s got plenty of room for a fourth green jacket!
Congratulations to Phil on his 41st win! He’s always a favorite at The Masters but I think he’ll have a great look at the US Open this year as well if he is able to continue driving the ball like he did this week. The way he was speaking of it being a game changer and the excitement he has is really encouraging.
I also have a question for the good people at Callaway. I have been a faithful Callaway player for many years, using only Callaway clubs. I think the product is of notably better quality than the competition but what really sets it apart is the unparalleled customer service not only in the golf industry but of any business I have ever encountered. Currently I use the Odyssey #8 Black Series Tour putter, x-forged wedges(52,56,60,64), muscleback irons, prototype 2 iron and razr hawk 3 wood and 8.5 FT Tour driver.
I was planning on getting either the Xtreme or XPro fairway wood and wasn’t sure what one would best suit my game. I’ve never used a driver that has compared to the FT Tour driver, I was wondering what this new Xtreme driver would do differently than the one I currently use.
First of all, if you like FT Tour, you should really give RAZR Fit Xtreme a trial. The R&D team worked hard to model certain characteristics of the RFX around what was so beloved of the FT Tour Driver (especially on Tour), including its shape and its blazing ball speed. And the lightweight crown means the CG is positioned low to bring your spin down off the tee for more distance – if that’s something you struggle with.
What will RFX do for you? It offers adjustability for optimal trajectory, a super hot and efficient face for high balls speeds across the face (not just the center), and awesome aftermarket shaft options. Oh yeah, it’ll make you longer and you can customize the crown and sole colors and even laser etch it if you’re into that sort of thing. Sounds good, right?
As for the FW, RAZR Fit Xtreme offers adjustability in the hosel so that’s something to consider if it’s important to you. Square, Open and Closed. Both FWs have a hot face, although the X Hot FW uses a Forged Face Cup that is 40% thinner than its predecessor for super high CT. The X Hot also has an internal weight that is positioned to provide more ball speed and lower, more consistent backspin for longer, more consistent distance. It’s a distance beast!
Bottom line: the best way to see which suits your game is to try them both.
Because of Phil, we have to pay $400.00 for a driver that consists about $32.00 of material.
I don’t believe you are forced to pay anything for this driver, you’re more than welcome to build your own.
A good is more than the sum of its parts. There are multimillion dollar machines that are used to build it. Research and development costs insane amounts of money, as well as advertisement. Not to mention the cost of the employees that make everything possible. On top of all of that they need to make a profit to continue pushing the envelope in new product development.
I currently own and use the Razr Fit Driver. Im definitely a Callaway guy and im proud to be one…golf bag and everything in it
I bought the Razr Fit Driver last year and absolutely love it. What i want to know is…whats the differences between last years model and the new Xtreme? I need good reasons to upgrade, not just because im digging the green…not a fan of red…but ive dealt with it because its Callaway
lol
The RAZR Fit Xtreme has the lowest center of gravity of any adjustable driver & this has helped reduce the backspin it produces compared to the RAZR Fit. It also has a hotter Speed Frame Face & this – coupled with the RAZR Fit Xtreme’s lower spin – resulted in big distance gains during testing with our Tour players (versus their current RAZR Fit, with gains in some cases of over 20 yards). Some casual golfers might see the distance benefits as well so we encourage you to test the driver out.
The lighter and stronger version of the Forged Composite top (helps re-position weight for more powerful trajectory), more precise chemical milling treatment of the face (for improved ball speed) and enhanced shaping features (for faster heads speed and distance potential) all improve the player’s chances of hitting longer, faster drives. The RFX Driver also features two new true aftermarket shaft options from Aldila and Matrix that allow even more fine tuning options to dial in the driver for any particular player.
The RAZR Fit Xtreme is our most adjustable driver. It has a large range of loft, face angle & weight bias options that allow the golfer to fine tune the driver to exactly suit their ball flight requirements and achieve their maximum potential distance.
The RAZR Fit is an excellent driver, but Callaway R&D worked very hard to not just create RAZR Fit 2.0, but to deliver significant and noticeable performance enhancements, especially regarding CG position and ball speed. Check them out and let us know which works better for you.
I know that Phil helps bring in customers like me, but why is it that he can get this driver with an 8.1 degree loft and all of the rest of us leftys have to settle for a 9.5 adjusted to a lesser loft. 9.5 degrees is too much for me as a result I’ve found myself looking at other brands. Oh and BTW why is Phil holding a right handed driver in the picture at the top of this page?
The RAZR Fit Xtreme is only offered in 8.5* in RH at present. We base this offering on historical demand but will take your feedback into consideration. Thanks!
Congrats to Phil and to team Callaway! It’s a great feeling when all is rewarded when the equipment fits the player. Best of luck Phil, bring on the Majors! And thank you for the short game tip videos. Instant results!
A little Callaway story to share for the rest of us. I’m completely unbiased with my equipment, but might start to consider some brand loyalty after my recent findings. I’ve always used a different competitors Golf Ball; until now. Last year, I just happen to try Callaway’s i(s) ball. And the results were; two drives at 356 and 355 yards. Boom! Longest drives I’ve ever hit with my 125mph swing speed. Plus they stick on the greens and helped me shoot my lowest score of 76 last year. After that episode, I’d like to Thank Ernie Ells for last year’s tournament win. When Ernie won, I stock piled the new Hex Blacks when they went on sale. I haven’t used them much yet, but I got one to go 347 yards.
In addition, I went on a launch monitor and tested multiple competitor irons and Callaway just happened to win with my results. I just purchased Callaway’s Razr-X forged irons. They were the best irons I hit for control. And I still use my old but wise Callaway big bertha -3 wood. I’m happy with the consistent results with that club. Or is it starting to be just Callaway? After Phil’s story with his Driver, I’ll have to get out and test that Razr Fit Xtreme! More and more, Callaway’s fit seems to keep finding its way in my bag.
Uncle T from Michigan
Just purchased a Razr driver but did not receive wrench, would anyone know where I can purchase one ?
Thanks.
Does last years Razr Fit hosel fit into this driver head?
In my defense when I posted my comment yesterday, Phil was holding a right handed club. It has since been changed.
It was great to see Phil win last week, I loved watching every minute of it. I was a Taylor Made golfer using both Driver and Irons. I have recently switched to Rzr X Callaway Irons and I’m very satisfied.
After watching Phil win I visited your web-site to inquire on the new Callaway X Hot extreme driver and I’m very interested in hitting it asap.
PS love your wine, I visited it last week in Temecula. I heard Callaway statred on this site, can you confirm that?
